Menstrual hygiene management is of great importance when you are on periods. Often we forget to care about simple and basic hygiene management techniques and ways but they are necessary to follow. Here is a list of some of the basic menstrual hygiene tips that are usually ignored but are really important.
Your sanitary pads will be in direct contact with your skin, you need to take care of them to avoid rash and infections. The genital area is sensitive and pad rash can lead to itching. So, keep your sanitary pads in a dry and clean place.
Use separate underwear during your period. Wear them only when you are on your periods and wash them separately using an antiseptic cleaning product, warm water, and soap. Make sure you carry extra panties to use in case of leakage. If the panties are stained, use lemon or bleaching powder to remove it.
Some people believe that you should not take a bath during your period. This is not a problem if the water is clean. It actually helps to improve blood circulation and alleviates menstrual pain. Even if you feel lazy during your period, take a bath and you will definitely feel better.
During your period, make sure you change your sanitary pads frequently, even on a day when you are having little menstrual flow. If you do not change it for a long time, it can lead to infection. Try to change pads at least once every 5 or 7 hours, even on a day when your menstrual flow is light.
It is important to know how to dispose of used pads or other materials you are using correctly. Always wrap the used product in waste paper or put it in a plastic bag. Discard it in a dustbin used for sanitary products. If not available, do not throw it without a wrapping or bag, do not leave it on the floor of the toilet and never flush it down the toilet.
